Mérida turns 475 with entertainment galore

Mérida, Yucatán — In a traditonal traditional “Alborada,” 120 troubadours sang a traditional “Happy Birthday” to Mérida in its 475th Anniversary at the Municipal Palace at midnight Thursday, kicking a very special Mérida Fest.

This weekend, numerous artistic and cultural events are in store.

Today (Friday) at 7 p.m. the  “One Hundred Years of Pedro Infante” series features  “Los Tres García” (1946), by Ismael Rodríguez, at the Olimpo Cultural Center.

On Saturday at 6 p.m., the Thó-Kin Music program will be presented at Parque Santiago, with local groups of different genres: Balché, La Kolekta Ska, Dasein and La Experiencia Tropical Deco with Alice True Colors.

At 8 p.m. at Parque Santa Lucía, listen to the musical group Dixie Mérida Street, directed by Carlos Rodriguez, with his style of modern swing and music of the 40s, 50s and 60s. Or also at 8, in the central courtyard of Olimpo, a theatrical performance “Say Goodbye to the Air” will be under the direction of Wendy Cruz.

At noon Sunday, a children’s puppet show “Magic Flute”  directed by César Reyes, takes the auditorium of Olimpo. At 8 p.m, on the same stage, there will be the Central College Vocal Combo, under the direction of Gabriel Espinosa.
